The Many Faces of Fat Happy, Jr.

In May of 2005, Julie and Mark adopted their first and only child, Fat Happy, Jr.  We saw Fat Happy at the William and Joseph Gallery on Royal Street in New Orleans (post-Katrina, the Gallery relocated to Sante Fe. CLICK HERE for their website.  The artist is Barrett DeBusk from Austin, Texas. The DeBusk website can be accessed HERE, but you will not find any of the Fat Happy works on his website; for that, use the Gallery link.

Fat Happy, Jr. is just under 60 inches tall and weighs about 200 pounds, and today, he stands watch in our front yard.  By clicking on the links below, you will be able see how we secured Fat Happy (my engineer friends who designed the base have warned Julie and I that if a tornado ever hits, we should get out of the house and tie ourselves to Fat Happy, because he is not going anywhere!). There are photos of the "installation," of his first "birthday party," and of the subsequent humiliations he has suffered at Julie's hands (yes, despite my protests, Julie treats Fat Happy like one of those cement geese, dressing him up for holidays and special occasions).

We hope you enjoy him as much as we--and our neighbors--do.
